Best Schools in Ephraim, Utah: A Complete Parent's Guide for Families

Ephraim sits in the middle of Sanpete Valley on US-89, between Mt. Pleasant to the north and Manti to the south, with the Wasatch Plateau rising right behind town. It's home to Snow College, which gives Ephraim more energy than most towns its size: concerts, games, a busy Main Street, and a steady stream of families who came for the college and decided to stay.

If you're moving to Ephraim with kids, the first question is almost always the same: where will my children go to school?

Here's the short answer. Ephraim students attend Ephraim Elementary School, then Ephraim Middle School, both right here in town, and then Manti High School, about seven miles south in Manti. All three are part of South Sanpete School District. Ephraim has one public elementary and one public middle school, so the town itself isn't split between competing school boundaries.

There's one more piece of news worth knowing: American Preparatory Academy, a tuition-free public charter school, has been approved to open a K–6 campus in Ephraim. It isn't open yet. APA's website lists it as coming in fall 2028.

Below you'll find every school that serves Ephraim families, with grade levels, addresses and a link to each school's website. After that is a parent's guide answering the questions I hear most often from families buying here.

Ephraim Elementary School — Preschool through Grade 5

570 South 300 East, Ephraim, UT 84627 | (435) 283-4171

Ephraim Elementary is where most Ephraim kids start, and it's a sizable school for a rural town, with roughly 535 students according to the most recent federal school data. Kindergarten through fifth grade are taught here, and the school also runs a preschool program.

A few things parents should know:

  • Support services. The school lists special education and English language learner (ELL) services, Title I support, and free and reduced-price lunch.
  • A School Community Council. Parents can serve on it and help decide how the school's School LAND Trust money gets spent.
  • It's in town. The school sits on the south side of Ephraim, just a couple of blocks from Ephraim Middle School, which makes things easier for families with kids in both.

Ephraim Middle School — Grades 6–8

555 South 100 East, Ephraim, UT 84627 | (435) 283-4037

Sixth graders move up to Ephraim Middle School, which serves about 495 students in grades 6 through 8. It's a couple of blocks from the elementary.

What stands out:

  • Athletics run with Ephraim City. Middle school sports are offered in partnership with Ephraim City, which handles scheduling and charges a small team fee.
  • College and career planning starts early. The counseling office handles course registration and college and career planning.
  • Field trips that use the area. Sixth-grade history classes, for example, travel to Fremont Indian State Park.

Manti High School — Grades 9–12

100 West 500 North, Manti, UT 84642 | (435) 835-2281

Ninth through twelfth graders from Ephraim attend Manti High School, home of the Templars (red and white). The school serves students from Manti, Ephraim and Sterling, with about 690 students.

Manti High has deep roots. It was founded in 1905, and two traditions have run since the early 1930s: underclassmen whitewash the "M" on the hillside, and students light homecoming candles at the fairgrounds. The district runs a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Manti High, including agriculture.

With Snow College right in Ephraim, ask the Manti High counselors early about concurrent enrollment, Utah's program that lets high school students earn college credit before they graduate.

Coming in 2028: American Preparatory Academy – Ephraim (Charter, K–6)

In February 2026, the Utah State Charter School Board approved American Preparatory Academy's plan for a new K–6 campus on a 5.2-acre site in Ephraim Crossing, a 300-acre planned community on the southwest side of town. APA is a tuition-free public charter school with a classical curriculum. Its website lists the Ephraim campus as coming in fall 2028, and families can join its mailing list for enrollment updates.

Charter schools don't use neighborhood boundaries. Admission is by application, and usually by lottery when there are more applicants than seats. Until it opens, Ephraim has no charter school in town.

A Parent's Guide to Ephraim Schools: Questions and Answers

Which schools will my child attend if I buy a home in Ephraim?

For a home inside Ephraim, the usual path is Ephraim Elementary (K–5), then Ephraim Middle (6–8), then Manti High (9–12). Ephraim has one public elementary and one public middle school, so you aren't choosing between two elementary boundaries on opposite sides of town.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

If you're looking at a home outside city limits, out toward the farm ground or the foothills, confirm the school assignment before you write an offer. The simplest way is to call South Sanpete School District at (435) 835-2261 with the property address. Also check the district's bus route schedules to see where the nearest stop is. This is something I check for my buyers on every rural property.

Is there bus service?

Yes. South Sanpete School District provides buses to a student's assigned school when the walking distance is more than 1½ miles for elementary students, or more than 2 miles for middle and high school students. Families who live closer generally walk or drive. The district publishes route schedules for Ephraim Elementary, Ephraim Middle and Manti High, and it has a "Find My Bus" tool on its transportation page.

Can my child attend a different school through open enrollment?

Utah law allows open enrollment, which means applying to a public school outside your assigned boundary. Acceptance depends on space. South Sanpete posts how many outside students each school will take each year on its open enrollment page. For October 2026 through October 2027, the district projected it would accept only a handful: 5 at Ephraim Elementary, 3 at Ephraim Middle and 7 at Manti High. These schools are close to full, so if open enrollment is part of your plan, apply in the state's early enrollment window, which closes in early February. Transportation to a school outside your boundary isn't guaranteed.

How do the schools perform academically?

Rather than rely on a ranking website, I point families to the Utah School Report Card. It's the state's own data on test scores, growth and graduation rates, and it's updated every year. Then visit the school. In a town this size, a short conversation with the principal will tell you more than any letter grade.

What about special education, 504 plans and IEPs?

South Sanpete School District has a Special Education department and a 504 coordinator. If you're moving with an IEP or 504 plan from another district, contact the district before you move so services carry over without a gap.

How long is the drive to Manti High?

Manti is about seven miles south of Ephraim on US-89, roughly a 10–15 minute drive. Students who qualify ride the bus, and parents typically drive for evening games and events.

Do schools affect home values in Ephraim?

Not the way they do on the Wasatch Front. Every home inside Ephraim feeds the same elementary, the same middle school and the same high school, so there's no premium for being on the "right side" of a boundary line. What does move value here is walking distance to the elementary and middle schools, lot size, water rights and water shares, outbuildings, and how close a home is to Snow College. The college matters both for rental demand and for the in-town feel many buyers want.

The schools you'll want to keep an eye on are the new ones. Ephraim Crossing and the APA charter campus planned there are part of how the south end of Ephraim is growing, and that's worth understanding if you're buying for the long term.

How I Help Families Match the Right School With the Right Home

I'm Sadie Wake, a Realtor with Aspen Leaf Realty, and I work across Sanpete Valley, including Ephraim. When a family tells me schools matter, I don't just hand them a boundary map. I help them:

  • Confirm the school assignment and bus stop for any property they're serious about, especially homes and acreage outside city limits.
  • Weigh walkability against land. Some families want to be a few blocks from Ephraim Elementary and Ephraim Middle, and others want acreage with water and don't mind the bus. I'll show you both.
  • Plan around open enrollment and the new charter, if those are part of your plans, so you don't miss an application window.
  • Understand what rural property here involves: water rights and shares, irrigation, wells, septic and outbuildings.
