Best Schools in Manti, Utah: A Complete Parent's Guide for Families
Manti sits on US-89 at the south end of Sanpete Valley, about seven miles south of Ephraim. It's the Sanpete County seat, a town of 3,429 people at the 2020 census, and one of the most historic places in Utah. The Manti Utah Temple, dedicated in 1888, sits on the hill above town, and Main Street still has its 19th-century stone buildings. Families move here for the space, the quiet, the history, and very often for the schools.
If you're moving to Manti with kids, the first question is almost always the same: where will my children go to school?
Here's the short answer. Manti students attend Manti Elementary School in town, then Ephraim Middle School about seven miles north in Ephraim, and then come back to Manti for Manti High School. All three are part of South Sanpete School District. Manti has one public elementary school, so the town isn't split between competing elementary boundaries.
Below you'll find every school that serves Manti families, with grade levels, addresses and a link to each school's website. After that is a parent's guide answering the questions I hear most often from families buying here.

Manti Elementary School — Preschool through Grade 5
150 West 100 South, Manti, UT 84642 | (435) 835-2271
Manti Elementary is where Manti kids start school. It has about 408 students according to the most recent federal school data. Kindergarten through fifth grade are taught here, and federal records list a preschool program as well.
A few things parents should know:
- It's close to downtown. The school is a short walk from Main Street, so many in-town families are within walking distance.
- A School Community Council. Parents can serve on it and help decide how the school's School LAND Trust money is spent.
- Little room for outside students. For the 2026–27 open enrollment year, the district projected it would accept zero students from outside the boundary at Manti Elementary. In practice, that means a home inside the boundary is the way in.
Ephraim Middle School — Grades 6–8
555 South 100 East, Ephraim, UT 84627 | (435) 283-4037
After fifth grade, Manti students go to Ephraim Middle School, about seven miles north up US-89. It serves about 495 students in grades 6 through 8 from Manti, Ephraim and Sterling. The district's own bus schedules for Ephraim Middle include morning stops throughout Manti and Sterling.
What stands out:
- Athletics run with Ephraim City. Middle school sports are offered in partnership with Ephraim City, which handles scheduling and charges a small team fee.
- College and career planning starts early. The counseling office handles course registration and college and career planning.
Manti High School — Grades 9–12
100 West 500 North, Manti, UT 84642 | (435) 835-2281
For high school, Manti students come home. Manti High School, home of the Templars (red and white), serves students from Manti, Ephraim and Sterling, with about 690 students. That makes it the largest school in the district.
Manti High has deep roots. It was founded in 1905, and two traditions have run since the early 1930s: underclassmen whitewash the "M" on the hillside, and students light homecoming candles at the fairgrounds. The district runs a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Manti High, including agriculture.
With Snow College just up the road in Ephraim, ask the Manti High counselors early about concurrent enrollment, Utah's program that lets high school students earn college credit before they graduate.
Coming in 2028: A Charter Option Nearby
There's no charter school in Manti. In February 2026, though, the Utah State Charter School Board approved American Preparatory Academy's plan for a K–6 campus in Ephraim Crossing, on the southwest side of Ephraim. APA is a tuition-free public charter school, and its website lists the Ephraim campus as coming in fall 2028. Charter schools don't use neighborhood boundaries. Admission is by application, and usually by lottery when there are more applicants than seats. That means Manti families will be able to apply too.
A Parent's Guide to Manti Schools: Questions and Answers
Which schools will my child attend if I buy a home in Manti?
For a home in Manti, the usual path is Manti Elementary (K–5), then Ephraim Middle (6–8), then Manti High (9–12). Manti has one public elementary, so you aren't choosing between two elementary boundaries on opposite sides of town.
How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?
If you're looking at a home outside city limits, out toward Sterling or the farm ground around town, confirm the school assignment before you write an offer. Call South Sanpete School District at (435) 835-2261 with the property address, and check the district's bus route schedules to see where the nearest stop is. I check both for my buyers on every rural property.
Is there bus service?
Yes. South Sanpete School District provides buses to a student's assigned school when the walking distance is more than 1½ miles for elementary students, or more than 2 miles for middle and high school students. Because Ephraim Middle is seven miles away, Manti's sixth through eighth graders are well beyond that distance and qualify for the bus. The district posts route schedules and a "Find My Bus" tool on its transportation page.
Can my child attend a different school through open enrollment?
Utah law allows open enrollment, which means applying to a public school outside your assigned boundary. Acceptance depends on space. South Sanpete posts how many outside students each school will take each year on its open enrollment page. For October 2026 through October 2027, the district projected it would accept 0 at Manti Elementary, 3 at Ephraim Middle and 7 at Manti High. If open enrollment is part of your plan, apply in the state's early enrollment window, which closes in early February. Transportation to a school outside your boundary isn't guaranteed.
How do the schools perform academically?
Rather than rely on a ranking website, I point families to the Utah School Report Card. It's the state's own data on test scores, growth and graduation rates, and it's updated every year. Then visit the school. In a town this size, a short conversation with the principal will tell you more than any letter grade.
What about special education, 504 plans and IEPs?
South Sanpete School District has a Special Education department and a 504 coordinator, and the district office is right in Manti. If you're moving with an IEP or 504 plan from another district, contact the district before you move so services carry over without a gap.
How long is the drive to Ephraim Middle School?
Ephraim is about seven miles north on US-89, roughly a 10–15 minute drive. Most middle schoolers ride the bus, and parents typically drive for after-school activities and events.
Do schools affect home values in Manti?
Not the way they do on the Wasatch Front. Every home in Manti feeds the same elementary, middle and high school, so there's no premium for being on the "right side" of a boundary line. What does move value here is walking distance to Manti Elementary and Manti High, lot size, water rights and water shares, outbuildings, historic character, and views of the temple hill.
How I Help Families Match the Right School With the Right Home
I'm Sadie Wake, a Realtor with Aspen Leaf Realty, and I work across Sanpete Valley, including Manti. When a family tells me schools matter, I don't just hand them a boundary map. I help them:
- Confirm the school assignment and bus stop for any property they're serious about, especially homes and acreage outside city limits.
- Weigh walkability against land. Some families want to be a few blocks from Manti Elementary, and others want acreage with water and don't mind the bus. I'll show you both.
- Plan around open enrollment and the new charter, if those are part of your plans, so you don't miss an application window.
- Understand what rural and historic property here involves: water rights and shares, irrigation, wells, septic, outbuildings, and what it takes to own an older home.
